if the tax hike hurts the economy, Obama suffers and not them.

If tax cuts truly didn't, Obama wouldn't be fighting for them here.

        •  not so sure i agree with your logic there (0+ / 0-)

...tax cuts don't help the economy. that Obama is fighting for them is political, not economic.

cutting taxes hurts the economy, but is good politics. Obama isn't raising taxes. Republicans are. if Obama stays on message and hammers that home, this won't hurt him.

          •  How does cutting taxes (0+ / 0-)

HURT the economy? I mean, I can understand it not helping in some cases, but I refuse to believe that people having more money in their pocket can make the economy WORSE.

            •  cutting taxes always means reduced gov't spending (0+ / 0-)

...which is always bad for the economy.

how has the middle class and the economy generally fared with these middle class tax cuts?

flopped. it has been a disaster. how can "refuse to believe" what is right in front of your eyes? where is your evidence that this payroll tax break has helped the economy? when does this magical tax-cuts-stimulate-the-economy nonsense start to kick in? it never will, but we as Americans have been programmed for 30 years to believe this lie, despite all the evidence proving it wrong.

              •  I don't know (0+ / 0-)

Government spending has increased substantially in the last few decades, despite lower taxes.

                •  a lot of that "spending" is interest (0+ / 0-)

...because we have to constantly borrow more and more money because of tax cuts.
