  •  The groundwork has been set for the Democrats (5+ / 0-)

to vote no in the Senate on the extension for the Bush tax cuts in 2012.

Democrats can unilaterally help fix the deficit by just voting against an extension of the Bush Tax Cuts.  As long has they end up with 40+ seats in November.

I fully expect the Republicans tp eliminate the filibuster if they regain the majority...Just saying.

...that I think they will regain the Senate. It will be a tough battle though since there are few R's up for reelection where there are many D's. Now, several D's are already on thin ice as are several R's, so it may end up an even swap.  I was replying to the specific point that the writer said we need 40 or more D's when we really need 50+ D's since I am pretty certain the way they are acting the R's will eliminate the filibuster if they gain control.

Frist promised that for three years.  They won't do away with the filibuster any more than they have voted for changing the "hold" system.

Senators loves their privilege.  They all know that they could end up in the minority and to protect their ability to blackmail their colleagues, they will never vote against the 60 vote rule.
