  •  Aaron Copeland's "Fanfare for the Common Man" (7+ / 0-)

was written for guys like my Pop.
Dad was born with a partially withered left arm and his left leg is shorter than his right. He worked blue collar jobs all his life, played soccer and baseball and when the big band struck up at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, he could really cut a rug.  He has a gift for making friends and a silver tongue. He worked hard and played hard because, in his own words, "I didn't want anybody to think I was a cripple."

I started with nothing and still have most of it left. - xxdr zombiexx

in n.y. my mom and her sisters would tell stories about 'dressing to the nines" and going to the rainbow room at rockefeller center. i loved hearing those stories.

my mom would have been the same age as your pop, had she not passed away many years ago on new years' day. we owe so much to that generation.

my heart is with you, brother. peace.

There is a crime here that goes beyond denunciation. There is a sorrow here that weeping cannot symbolize. There is a failure here that topples all our success. Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck
