    and you could park anywhere. I remember pulling up and parking right in the main plaza in front of the cathedral in Orvieto,  no worries. While tourists in cars had to park far away and take a shuttle bus up to the center.

    I saw a stage of the Giro in Urbino. Pitigliano was probably my favorite.

      we didn't see a lot of tuscany. from florence we made side trips to pisa, arrezzo and fiesole, but that was it. from rome we took a few days in mid-winter to see siena- in the snow! saw a bit more of the north and east, and also did side trips from rome to pompeii, paestum, cerveteri, and tarquinia. all by train. drove around the north, after leaving venice.
