    especially at Christmas.

    Many patients don't have family or friends that can, or are willing to, visit them regularly, so their strongest attachments are often to those who care for them in the nursing home.  Good care workers know the patients individually and treat them that way -- total strangers won't have any idea about the little things that make life more bearable in difficult conditions.

    So everyone loses -- because when management "wins" against a union, it's not really a victory.  Oh, maybe temporarily, to the bottom line, but you've lost your workers' loyalty, and that can't be good in the long term.
