    You may be right regarding the new filing period. In fact having done some legwork I am pretty sure you are right.

    Won't the Supremes either endorse the TX Lege maps or the Court Drawn maps rather than go for a redraw?

      If they went with the lege maps, that would be nuclear. Hadn't even really considered that possibility, but it would completely short-circuit preclearance.

      I also presume they won't go with the interim maps because otherwise they wouldn't have granted a stay. That is to say, the whole reason they stayed implementation was because they were persuaded that Abbott was likely to succeed on his claim that the court-drawn maps would cause irreparable harm. Now, they aren't locked into that—they could decide they were wrong to grant the stay. But I'm just not seeing that.

      I suppose there's another possibility, which is they could do something totally whack-ass like pick the Cuellar/Quico maps. But if they don't pick an extant set of maps, or if they pick a particular map but direct that certain changes be made, that'll take time.
