  •  And Republicans have spent the past 30 years (0+ / 0-)

redefining what "Centrist" means. Maybe if Dems pushed that definition back to the actual center, they'd have better election results. But that won't happen as long as they keep running as Republicans.

    •  Well that's just it (1+ / 0-)

It is again relative to the state/ region you are in.
Being a centrist in California could be considered being a liberal in states like Arkansas and Alabama

Nebraska is a very conservative state, it's voters like limited government and low taxes. It took the issue of Civil Rights to make it vote for Democrat in 1964.
So it really is no surprise for centrists in Nebraska to look conservative at the national level.

Case and point take a look at the Alabama Legislature (it was dubbed as one of the most conservative legislatures in the country! and the legislature had been run by democrats for over a century, shocking yes I know) But you need to look at that other side of issue despite how very conservative the democrats were in the legislature their Republican colleagues were Gasp! even more conservative than the Democrats!
That's why its important to look at things from the relative local and state level.
It's will take some massive changes to get a state Like Nebraska moving to the left.
