    ...sometimes those with good intentions just don't get what is offensive to LGBT folks.

    Years ago, I sat in a class for work where the teacher told a homophobic joke.  Later in the day, he asked for everyone to give him written feedback on the class, and in my feedback I commented on the inappropriateness of that joke.

    Well, the teacher got all the comments back and he started reading them out loud to the class (which takes a certain amount of nerve on his part -- he hadn't prescreened the comments and couldn't know what would be in them).  And I got progressively more nervous wondering how he would react when he got to my comment.  Would he be defensive or express some more homophobic opinions?  I was able to easily imagine the worst.

    But when he got to my comment, he read it out loud, looked embarassed, and responded "this guy is right, and I won't do it again."

    While there is no hope for the "cartoonist" that created this calendar, there is reason to think that folks at Amazon and B&N will do the right thing when it's brought to their attention.
