With so many "leaders" denying science, I fear we might be heading for a new dark ages--albeit, a very hot dark age.  Question for seers;  will the internet be a force to keep science alive, or, a tool for misinformation and censorship?

All media follow the same arc.

      1. Invention by scientists & techs.
      2. Development by techs and nerds.
      3. Flowering powered by content artists.
      4. Capture by the corporatists.
      5. Surviving democratic activity reaching negligible audiences.

We're most of the way through stage 4 for the Internet.

I see you share my pessimism--happy new year?  I went to a born again funeral last month, the pastor gleefully promised the end of the world was near--and the congregation raised their left hands and said amen.  What struck me as odd, they seem to have a lot of children--and bring them to church to scare the crap out of them.  Even odder, the kids seemed to revel in the thought of imminent death.  Even odder still, these religious organizations tell parishioners how to vote--even though the world won't be around in time for the victor to take office!

As a Jew, the reference to all of my brethren being sent back to Israel to die in order to pave the way for Jesus, was enough to make me want to stand up and denounce the insanity--at the least.  My shiksa wife knew to hold my hand tightly-- this was not the time to blow up.  Amen!!
