    All the more so in person, as I did. But my understanding is that it's for their own good. I don't know if that's actually true, but given that this was on government land, I'd like to believe that it was. Do you know otherwise? I was only there for a couple of hours, nearly 20 years ago.

    I also saw some of the bison that run free in Yellowstone the previous week. I don't recall seeing a more impressive animal this up close. They're at once both terrifying and gentle. You want to approach them but obviously you don't.
