  •  NM redistricting "least change" map (3+ / 0-)

Yeah, no kidding least change.  I can't even detect the differences between the old lines and the new.

But Las Lunas and Belen, that missing corner just south of Albuquerque, have really grown (and lean Dem, especially in relation to rural Torrance County).  Seems to me like they sure OUGHT to be incorporated into NM-01 since functionally they ARE part of the metropolitan area.   I know our map is less gerrymandered than many, but still.

I know you and I touched on this subject last week.  Los Lunas & Belen and rest of Valencia County are part of the ABQ corridor ... even have commuter train service into the metro.  Logically they make a much better fit as a "community of interest" than Torrance County.  So perhaps there is some mischief in the way that was drawn.

    •  Will NM be 3D-0R by the end of the decade? (3+ / 0-)

With Hispanic population growth, and growth concentrated in Dona Ana and Valencia counties, I would think that's a pretty good possibility.

Because we already had an all-D delegation both House and Senate in 2008, thanks mainly to Obama coattails in NM-02.  Too bad Teague failed to hold that seat in the last cycle.

I doubt it, actually -- military, oil and gas, and ranching are about all the economy in the southern half of the state, and I don't see that changing.  None of those sectors is traditionally hospitable to Dem candidates.

Given that no districts were gained or lost, and the previously districts were more or less representative of the state. I can appreciate a court that doesn't change maps drastically (See: Minnesota)
