And it factors into my morality greatly.

It's not trite and cute to discuss a path to morality at all. It is trite, however, to waste valuable political capital going after Cee Lo Green and the World Trade Center cross.

    •  you have your facts wrong (0+ / 0-)

The atheists didn't initiate going after Cee Lo. It was the John Lennon fans on Twitter who did that. They're the ones who are using up the political capital (such as peeps have it) going after the artist.

Of course Faux News might misinterpret what happened here, but we atheists shouldn't be encouraging bullshit.

I meant to wade in, but I jumped.

I hear what you're saying about the luxury to think about whether or not a God exists.

I think that's a universal argument that is not isolated to this one issue.  In any higher level discussion, the people taking part will almost necessarily be part of some entitled class.  The reason?  In order to contemplate the higher meaning of the world in a real way, you have to be able to take care of the here and now.

Additionally, the leadership  in any movement is probably going to be somehow part of an entitled class.  They could be that segment of the persecuted class that crosses the barrier between the two, but they will in some way be entitled.

Here is an interesting thought:  Skeptics remain skeptics, even when it comes to questioning their own acts and their own thought processes.  That leads to more self-critical thinking patterns than you might have in other areas of social understanding.

Son to me: "Geez Dad, I'm not a pervert!" Me to son: "Son, you're a 14 year old boy, of course you're a pervert."
