  •  $.03 for an egg (3+ / 0-)

I had a death experience a few years ago. Since then, I've tried to give back. I get the $1 coins from the bank and I keep them in my car. When I see someone at a street corner who needs help, I hand them a dollar coin. But, in the larger scheme, I started a charity to help less fortunate girls in Central and Eastern Europe. I've spent that $50,000 a plate helping many over the past 7 years. For the past year, I've been working with a young Romanian girl. I tried to help her to get her J1 visa to work in the USA. She had to travel to Bucharest for her embassy interview. She told me that she could never live there. A single raw egg cost 9 cents in Bucharest, but only 3 cents in her city. Do we think about how much a single egg costs when we pick up a dozen eggs in the market? Often, when I speak to this girl on the phone, she gets hungry. One night, all she had was pig brains and a slice of bread. Sounds disgusting to me, but it's probably a delicacy to her.

      •  Rec for an egg! (0+ / 0-)

        Hi Spoc42,

You did rec me 100 times! Thank you! I've been in a total funk for months. Caregiver, upcoming divorce. I've just been relieved of caring for my father yesterday. A weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. I've been writing prolifically for two days. I have my swagger back. Last night, I wrote this young lady who has lost all hope, the egg girl. I challenged her to join me, and to quit feeling sorry for herself.

By the way, I face having no insurance shortly. I may be like the guy in the wheelchair soon. But, I want to continue somehow to make a difference in the world. It's what keeps me going. Shame on the 1%.
