    Reading your old post, the idea is to have a better way of converting solar energy to some more storable and transportable form. That's a genuine challenge, and methane may ultimately play a role. However, I'm afraid based on the comments here that people have misunderstood the limited role that these ideas play. The key step is getting renewable sources online on a large enough scale, and that challenge is essentially unaffected by ideas about how to ultimately make efficient use of the renewable energy once we have a surplus of it.

    It's a bit analogous to the misunderstanding people have about the role of fuel cells. They aren't energy sources. They don't replace oil wells. They may someday replace batteries.
    The key step remains getting that renewable energy, not figuring out how to use it.
