  •  What I did on my vacation: (10+ / 0-)

I went to Chicago, to Hyde Park. I went book shopping on 57th Street. Every child should do that! I hear the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band play at the Art Institute, went to Christmas Eve vespers at First Unitarian, and had lunch at Cedars on 53rd Street, The tagene was great and their pita is wonderful — piping hot and fluffy.

You know what else is piping hot? The pile of crap that is this "turnaround" stuff. I cannot for the life of me see how this benefits any kids in any way. So the school is not doing that well (probably because the kids come from poor homes where families are struggling to get by). Instead of providing support services and working to improve the schools step by step, you rip everything out from under them and create more insecurity and uncertainty in the lives of kids who already have too much of it. Then they start from ground zero again. Would Rahm Emanuel was HIS kids in a "turnaround" situation? I'm betting not.

All of this so-called education "reform" needs to stop. Nothing should be done to poor schools that the politicians and reformers would find unacceptable at THEIR kids' schools.

Sincerely, a proud product of the Chicago Public Schools, decades before the "reformers"sank their teeth in them.

Take the "Can't(or)" out of Congress. Support E. Wayne Powell in Va-07. http://www.ewaynepowell.com/
