    This really struck me:

Don't Do Unto Others - The difference between gay marriage and polygamy

My friend Charles Krauthammer makes the argument succinctly in the Washington Post. "Traditional marriage is defined as the union of (1) two people of (2) opposite gender," he observes. "If, as advocates of gay marriage insist, the gender requirement is nothing but prejudice, exclusion and an arbitrary denial of one's autonomous choices," then "on what grounds do they insist upon the traditional, arbitrary and exclusionary number of two?"

Here's the answer. The number isn't two. It's one. You commit to one person, and that person commits wholly to you. Second, the number isn't arbitrary. It's based on human nature. Specifically, on jealousy.

It's tough being on the right.... side of history.

      ...with polygamy either.

As long as you're talking about CONSENTING ADULTS with the MENTAL CAPACITY to make decisions about who they want to spend their lives with, I'm not sure I understand the problem.

That doesn't mean that I'd go for it myself, and certainly it would cause issues of jealousy/etc, but it's not like those aren't issues already.

So, no, this doesn't in any way lead to approving of marrying a child, a dog or marrying an inanimate object, since none of those are entities with the mental capacity to give full consent.

is someone shouldn't get to claim multiple spouses as dependents on their taxes and double or triple dip on the tax benefits.

But if someone wants to be married to multiple people in the eyes of their invisible man in the sky, as long as all parties are consenting adults, then who are we to say no?

      •  This is what Santorum is counting on (0+ / 0-)

He knows that for a certain percentage of people who advocate for gay marriage, polygamy between consenting adults will not be a problem either.

But he also knows that for a certain percentage of gay marriage advocates, polygamy will be abhorrent.  What Santorum is trying to do is to re-connect people with that emotion and making them question whether a sustained brainwashing campaign is what has inoculated them to that feeling with regard to gay marriage.
