he would have just said, "This is my position, I understand people disagree, especially young people like yourself... next question?"

At least he wouldn't have a video on the YouTube, and NY Times, of himself arguing (and failing) and being booed. He might have managed to keep open the possibility he'd still get a vote or a volunteer out of the crowd.

    •  Where have I suggested that Santorum (0+ / 0-)

      is smart?  Quite the contrary.

I have said that he has a script and that he follows it routinely.

I have also said that he has been focusing on Romney and more so now.  The fact that some of his talking points happen to include Mormon practices to include polygamy does not make him smart, simply calculating.

he's smart enough to listen to his advisors, just not smart enough to have his advice sound intelligent.

Wish I could have had the followup, because I would have suggested to the candidate:

"Are you saying it would be OK for two men and a woman to get married?, If not - I don't understand why you're bringing a third entity into this conversation about a marriage of two people"

He wants to twist the question, you simply give him enough rope to hang himself.

Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed. Herman Melville US novelist & sailor (1819 - 1891)
