    From the Talmud, Berachot 10a

There were once some hoodlims in the neighborhood of Rabbi Meir who caused him a great deal of trouble.  Rabbi Meir accordingly prayed that they should die.  His wife Beruriah said to him:  "How could you allow that such a prayer should be permitted?" He answered, "Because it is written (Psalm 104:35) 'May sinners disappear from the earth.'"

She replied, "Is it written that way?  It is written 'May sin disappear from the earth!' Moreover, look at the end of the verse, 'And the wicked will be no more.'  Since sin will be no more, there will be no more wicked people.  Rather, pray for them that they will repent, and that there will be no more wicked people."  He did pray for them, and they repented.

If it is wrong to pray for the death of hoodlims who beat you up, then it is even more wrong to pray for the death of people who have done you no wrong.

"We have always known that heedless self-interest was bad morals, now we know that it is bad economics." Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Jan. 20, 1937
