    In the 80's.  "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous", "Wall Street", Michael Milken, all captured the cultural zeitgeist.  Lots of people have envied the wealthy, but somewhere along the line we became obsessed and lost whatever inhibitions we had about screwing over anyone and anything to get rich.  Caring about your fellow man and our common welfare has become a quaint if not derisive characteristic of the "fringe".  How tragic.
