    which is facilitated by the fact that the airport code for Tucson is TUS and not TUC. From Wikipedia:

    The English name Tucson derives from the Spanish name of the city, Tucsón [tukˈson], which was borrowed from the O'odham name Cuk Ṣon [tʃʊk ʂɔːn], meaning "(at the) base of the black [hill]", a reference to an adjacent volcanic mountain.
    This is the type of history taught in the ethnic studies classes so hated by the state government in Phoenix.
    Going back to the topic of your original diary, one of Tucson's better known singer-songwriters is Namoli Brennet. You might want to check out her website and tour schedule one of these days. She's really a pleasure to listen to.
