    One of the many things I like about this post is that it encourages people to market themselves.  It's very important, especially in this economy, to create your own brand.

    I wonder where the line is between being empowered and making oneself into an object to be marketed.

    I think that self-objectification is one of the subtler manifestations of the ugliness of this system.

    So when I read these discussions of what is required of people in these times, I find myself thinking: Wait. I am a human being. I am not a brand.

      I'm not sure what you mean by "objectification."  If (the royal) you are marketing yourself just to get a job, then I agree that's problematic.  My point was that people should market themselves to get more than just a job.  People should market themselves as a means of investing in themselves and the life they want for themselves.  In that sense, self-promotion as a means of changing one's life is empowering.

      That's how I meant it.
