  •  Tell you what, the diary the other day about (20+ / 0-)

the USN rescuing the Iranian fishermen, while also providing a God Bless America moment, received alot more recs than this one.  The way that was painted in the MSM was obvious pure propaganda generated from the Pentagon, and quite convenient for the latest calls to attack Iran.  And a large segment of people on this site accepted the narrative.
Antiwar, nothing has really changed for the American public regarding wars and the military, polls shows the same relative numbers as for Iraq.  Even OWS doesn't really highlight antiwar/militarization issues.
The people took to the streets BEFORE the Iraq war.  It looks like they might take to the streets after a war with Iran starts.   Too late.

    •  I was wondering about the Iran incident. And as (1+ / 0-)

      •  I haven't seen a dust is settled piece yet. I'm (5+ / 0-)

not saying it didn't happen, they might have timed it since they were out there something like 45 days.  Just my opinion on how it was played.  It elicited comments that were like "take that Iran", "Fuck Ya, USN, you show em", etc., which played right into the Pentagon's hands.  I did see an article somewhere where the Pentagon admitted they were going to play it up, maybe not for a war with Iran purpose, probably more for recruiting image.  To me it's very disappointing to see the people on this site react to something like that, an incident that would have hardly been mentioned if it didn't happen to be Iranians, that country we've been threatening "all options on the table", for months now.  It indicates the same mindset that allowed the govt to fool the public about Iraq and an acceptance of the good vs evil, American exceptionalism propaganda.

        •  Yes, the tone of that diary was awful. (9+ / 0-)

I also see condescending, degrading remarks on North Korea and Somalia here, with no sense of history at all. It is appalling.

        •  maybe this will bring more cheers (7+ / 0-)

 (emphasis mine)

With ongoing war games on both sides, armed hostilities between the US-Israel led coalition and Iran are, according to Israeli military analysts, "dangerously close".
There has been a massive deployment of troops which have been dispatched to the Middle East, not to mention the redeployment of US and allied troops previously stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Nine thousand US troops have been dispatched to Israel to participate in what is described by the Israeli press as the largest joint air defense war exercise in Israeli history.
The drill, called “Austere Challenge 12,” is scheduled to take place within the next few weeks. Its stated purpose "is to test multiple Israeli and US air defense systems, especially the “Arrow” system, which the country specifically developed with help from the US to intercept Iranian missiles."

Missile defense and naval war games are being conducted simultaneously.  While Israel  and the US are preparing to launch major naval exercises in the Persian Gulf, Tehran has announced that it plans to conduct major naval exercises in February.
An impressive deployment of troops and advanced military hardware is unfolding.
Meanwhile, Israel has become a de facto US military outpost. US and Israeli command structures are being integrated, with close consultations between the Pentagon and Israel's Ministry of Defense.

A large number of US troops will be stationed in Israel once the war games are completed.

    •  My first thoughts when I read that (7+ / 0-)

were of just how much this sounded like the initial Pat Tillman and Jessica Lynch stories.

Too many coincidences in this story. Here's another take on it. Scroll down to the 7 January piece in which some of these coincidences are spelled out.

Shit man, particularly from people that have been around.
I'll read that, been there before.
BoilingFrog, Sybil Edmonds, started in on a few weeks ago I think.  Been reading about that.  I've always taken that site with a grain of salt anyway, pick and choose and make up my own mind, but it was interesting Sybil came out with that.  And now this!  On the serious political issues, the internet is like the Wild West, hard to know who to trust.

what the tone of that diary would be. I skipped it.

I am puzzled about Sybil's comment wrt I read one of his articles after seeing her comment but failed to see the point she made.

Hang around. The truth usually emerges in one form or another.
