  •  here are some more reasons Paul isn't progressive (4+ / 0-)

a diarist named "Kool Ice Kold Soda" wrote an informative diary about Ron Paul and because I'm such a luddite I can't use a link so I copied his/her words here...

Do you think Ron Paul wants to end the drug war?  To legalize drugs?  If so, you are mistaken.  Ron Paul wants the Federal government not to have the power to prosecute the drug war.  But he wants to allow the states to do basically whatever they want.  This includes much more than keeping drugs illegal.  Ron Paul would allow the states to not follow the Civil Rights Act, and a large number of other Federal laws which insure individual rights.  He is not a civil libertarian - not by a longshot.  He is simply against Federal power.  Any resemblance to your position on this issue is an illusion.

Do you think Ron Paul is for peace and against war?  If so, you are mistaken.  Ron Paul wants a change in US foreign policy, partially because he thinks that many deployments of troops are unconstitutional (under a very strict reading of the Constitution), partially because he thinks that Americans shouldn't die for foreigners, and partially because he wants Israel to be destroyed.  He is not for peace and against war.  Any resemblance to your position on this issue is an illusion.

Do you think Ron Paul is against militarization of the border?  If so, you are mistaken.   Ron Paul is against a border fence because he is opposed to something that that the Federal government could use to keep Americans in.  If he could build the equivalent of severe tire damage spikes which could kill people trying to get in but not impede those trying to get out, he would be all for it.  Any resemblance to your position on this issue is an illusion.

a hat tip and thanks to the original diarist but I thought his words made a clear point for those progressives who might think they have similiar beliefs as Paul. That's a mistake, Paul arrives at somewhat the same positions by a far right path, far different than yours or mine. Like David Duke and many Dixiecrats they sometimes sound progressive and even fool the unthinking but any examination clearly shows we actually believe far different things and should never be fooled again.

America could have chosen to be the worlds doctor, or grocer. We choose instead to be her policeman. pity
