  •  He and his advisors have used the phrase (0+ / 0-)

"Racist war on drugs" numerous times.  He may not actually care about the race aspect of it, but he sure as hell uses the language.

Second, if he ran as a third party candidate he would also syphon indie and lefty votes.  Google the internet for Ron Paul and you will find a heck of a lot of Obama voters who now turn to Ron Paul.  In fact, in Iowa the CNN poll was off until they added in the indie and dem voters, and then his numbers about doubled.

Yes, for now, until they find out more about his actual policies.  His policy on abortion alone will destroy him given it's so out of wack.  He would syphon far more of the GOP vote and the far right than left leaning independents and Democrats.  The Iowa caucuses included Dems and Independents in larger number than they would have if there had been an actual primary on the Dem side and not just Obama on the ballot so it isn't really a good measure of Dem support in a general election.

The most important thing to recognize is that a lot of the people who support Paul are not supporting him because he is racist or homophobic or whatever.  They are supporting him because they are profoundly disappointed with our political system and he seems to be the only one offering anything that looks like drastic change.  These folks won't care what his stance on local drug laws are because he's running for president, he isn't making local laws.

Despite what people here may say not all Ron Paul supporters are stupid or delusional or racist.  And everyone here would do well to remember that accusing them all of that is not going to get votes.

There revolution will not be televised. But it will be blogged, a lot. Probably more so than is necessary.
