    Because you assume it's personal cowardice that led them to saying "Okay, I'll help."

    How many times was the gun not to the man's head himself, but to his children's heads?  His wife?  His daughters, sons?

    It's relatively easy to be personally brave.  Being brave and allowing your wife and daughters and sons to be killed in front of you is something else altogether.

    The best policy is to give these people the benefit of the doubt.  Few people are cartoon evil bad guys; most are simply trying to survive and protect their family's.

    2.1 million Texans voted Democratic in the 2010 midterms. How many people in YOUR state voted D in 2010?

      choice.  It would be impossible for me to even know what I would do.  Bravery is good, but has limits - we aren't all cartoon superheroes either.  I now contemplate my own arrogance in ignorance.  I feel like a brave person, and have ideals, but I can never know how I would have dealt with that choice.

      What happened was certainly enough to drive any rational being - insane.

      Let's make sure it never happens again.  We can start by using our votes.
