  •  I'm a blah people too... (16+ / 0-)

but I'm white. Like your mom I got food stamps and was on welfare for several months. It helped me survive along with my 3 year old daughter.

I finally got a job through the CETA program as a firefighter. I later went on to get my CompSci degree and have been fully employed for over 35 years.

What little money I got via food stamps and welfare has been paid back. Without both of these government handouts I probably would have ended up as one of the  discontented, lazy rabble.

That's why I'm a bleeding heart liberal today. Without the help of Johnson's 'Great Society' who knows where I would be today.

I had a CETA job in High School which helped me save for college then my first "real" job after college was working in sheltered workshop that was once again paid for by CETA.  I went on to do 40 years as a professional do-gooder in social work which is closer to the bottom 1% than the top but I've much more than paid my debt forward and am proud of it.

Our cause is FAIRNESS. FAIRNESS for the masses. Our cause HOPE. HOPE for a better life and a better world. Yes WE Can, Yes WE Will. Together WE will OCCUPY THE WORLD. Let it be.
