  •  when I turned 42 (7 years ago) I proclaimed that I (19+ / 0-)

was the answer to life, the universe and everything  -- only a few people outside my immediate family got it (my parents didn't).

When my oldest son read it he went to high school for a week or two with a towel around his neck, to see how many teachers and students go it .. only a few did

but he also discovered how much fun it is to be on the "inside" of these literary jokes, allusions and references.

      Laughs upon laughs.

We use the SEP bit regularly, and I still explain it to people when the need arises.

So many delectable chunks from those books. The "meal" at the RatEotU explaining which pieces of him will be best for dinner.

Marvin outsmarting the terrifying weapon bot.

Marvin parking cars at the RatEotU till the end of time waiting for Zaphod et al.

Zaphod walking out unfazed from the torture device that shriveled all who entered with the overwhelming vastness of the universe, since it fit his vast ego perfectly - and of course, since everything is connected everything, the sensor could have been made of anything, so I believe it was a piece of sponge cake.

      And on, and on.

      Fabulous stuff.
