  •  I don't think there's any danger (14+ / 0-)

of this inoculating Mitt from Bain attacks in the general. Team Obama will not be using Bain as a one-and-done attack against Romney. I believe it's going to be one of the major themes of the campaign (setting the narrative), and that all other attacks and criticisms will be linked to it: Mitt's tax returns, tax rate, his economic policies, lifestyle, autocratic nature. In fact, having Newt lead the charge could help us a lot, as it legitimizes the very substance of the charge.

Let's turn this into the swiftboating of Romney.

    •  I seriously doubt it (0+ / 0-)

I don't think the Obama campaign will attack Bain, which would be an attack against the entire private equity industry.  These are big donors.  And Obama will steer clear of any criticism that smacks of OWS.  If he wouldn't attack the banksters who brought down the economy, I doubt he will go after the PE industry.

However, Bain and the other PE firms are a perfect target for OWS.  I wouldn't be surprised if we see agitation from this direction.  The Obama defenders would be wise to stop their "concern" and fretting about OWS because this is likely the only source from which Romney would receive pushback for his corporate career.
