Every time the Chinese shovel breaks, you have to stop what you're doing and go buy another one. With the price of gas, that's a non starter, not to mention the inconvenience. My experiences with Chinese made tools have convinced me that this kind of false economy ends up costing more in the long run.

It's cheaper to buy it once. Every time. That fourth shovel will break, too. So will the fifth one, and the sixth, and....

it's debatable if all 3 will last longer than the one American made one or not.

And, sometimes people can't afford to spend $22 on a shovel when a $5 one is available.

Also, the $5 Chinese-made shovels are being made for American corporations who send the specifications over to China for manufacture.

... or swear every time you use the tool for however long you keep it.  And old saying about the cost of, say a Powermatic band saw vs. some offshored piece of shit built by some Chinese 12 year old.  Something as simple and stupid as a two cent bolt vs. a ten cent bolt, the prior made out of such a poor quality steel that it shears off at half the torque and leaves the broken part stuck in the threaded hole.
