The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (GAB) has the responsibility to investigate ethics violations but can only recommend sanctions such as fines, censure, impeachment, or expulsion.

The GAB makes its recommendation to the WI State Supreme Court which makes the decision. Since the WI SC is corrupted by the right wing majority, Gabelman won't be penalized. No chance of that.

Technically, a WI SC Justice can be convicted of a felony and be sent to prison and still keep his SC position for the rest of his term. This extreme scenario would result in expulsion, of course, but an ethics violation doesn't rise to this level.

The blatent abuse of power by the WI legislature, the union busting bill, was upheld by the SC on the basis of separation of powers, not so much that they has violated the open meetings laws. The arguments made were bizarre, baseless, and nonsensical. Just what one would expect from the RWers. They actually didn't dispute that the open meetings law was violated. They ended up treating the open meetings law as a procedural rule controlled by the legislature (an astonishing pile of bullshit) and then claimed that the SC wasn't interested in interfering with the rules of the legislature.

    This is how they roll.

I wouldn't expect them to be rational about an ethics charge against one of their own, either.

    They just make shit up.
