  •  They just don't care. (3+ / 0-)

Rightwingers who want society to end all forms of aid for the poor are doing so strictly out of self serving ignorance and hatred. These people believe that there are already too many people alive, so if a few billion die they think that's a good thing... just so long as they still magically live through the apocolypse they fantasize about, it's all good.

    •  Agree about the ignorance, disagree about (4+ / 0-)

      the hatred.

It's a fun word to throw around, but I don't think it's accurate.

      P.S. I am not a crackpot.

      •  Try to have (5+ / 0-)

a reasoned conversation with them.  Measure how many minutes until they are red in the face and sputtering and screaming.

Then look at the shenanigans happening in Wisconsin - signs being torn down or destroyed, people being threatened and assaulted.

        That is hate.

I am not religious, and did NOT say I enjoyed sects.

        •  In some people the balance is tipped heavily (0+ / 0-)

towards emotion. As in non-logical, more base, thought. Just as in some it's tipped towards intelligence, or heavily away from intelligence. I really don't think there is any way to deal with it except to let them be who they are. And that isn't a good thing for a society when all votes count equally.

It's like hikers being held to the speed and whims of the one least fit to be hiking. If that's the situation, well, the hike becomes a lot less interesting and in fact the whole group could be forced to turn around and return to the parking lot.

It's not just about welfare.  It's about all government.  It's about religion.  It's about lifestyle.  It's about sex.  It's about family values.  It's about attitudes towards minorities and foreigners.  It's about the military.  It's about guns and ATVs.  It's about the music we listen to, the food we eat, the clothes we wear, etc.

It's about the power we allegedly have to shove ourselves in their faces 24/7 while marginalizing and disrespecting them.  It's about how we allegedly want to destroy the hearts and minds of all the children we couldn't get while they were still in the womb.

They see us as walking, talking slaps in their faces.  They see us as spitting on the flag and a crucifix simply by existing.  They hate us as much as human beings can hate.

Do you know why they call it the American Dream? Because it only happens when you're asleep.

      •  Come on down to Tampa in August... (0+ / 0-)

        ...and see for yourself.

Perhaps my perspective is tilted, thanks to the 180ft tall confederate flag that is flying over the busiest expressway interchange in the region. Take a gander at the comments section of most any political article posted in the rightwing friendly Tampa Tribune. Maybe you've got those more reasonable kind of conservatives out your way. I certainly remember them form when I lived in PA. But down here in FL, we apparently collect the crazies from all over.
