    Sorry.  What I meant was that I can't see modern Republicans supporting a woman as president.  If a woman is going to be president It is much more likely going to come from the Democratic camp.   And I suspect when that happens, the media will parade all the usual right wing suspects out to make their usual jokes about nuking enemies during 'that time of the month' or how women are too emotional or how it is ruining the traditional family and women should be at home looking after the babies.

      However, I do think that Sarah Palin had a real chance at being the first woman to represent her party as a Presidential candidate, had she not proven to be too unelectable.

      That said, don't get me wrong. Republican policies if enacted in full would be terrible for women in this country. As a father of two young girls, their policy positions towards women invalidate them from any remotely serious consideration in my world.

      I am however in agreement with the main theme of this diary. Republicans are not as individuals the bogey men we often paint them to be. Understanding who they really are and what motivates the typical Republican voter is in my view key to our winning the day over the long haul.
