  •  Gingrich makes an effective argument (14+ / 0-)

but it wont work in a GOP primary. The knee jerk reaction is going to be that you are attacking capitalism. But I think Gingrich's criticism is right and could be effective in a general: the main issue is that Romney made money, when companies failed. That's great, if you are Mitt Romney. But is it a characteristic that most people are going to be impressed by, and does it undermine Romney's job creation credentials?

    •  Who said Newt wants his attacks to work in the (13+ / 0-)

primary? He wants Romney to lose if he is the nominee.

You know it is coming and I think Newt's defense in that regard would be instructive.

that he isn't the only GOPer to want to lose the general.

GOPers don't want to actually govern (see Bush The Younger).  They've discovered that it is much easier to avoid responsibility by sitting on the side lines throwing bombs and monkey wrenches into the machine (see Boehner The Town Crier).

I've been lurking on RedState this past week to see where they're at, primary wise.  They're basically all convinced that Romney would do nothing to overturn Romneycare, that he'll "destroy America the same as Obama".  So we have a large number of hard core conservatives who view Romney as Obama-Lite and don't want any part of it.

Newt of course realizes the "destroy America" stuff is garbage and a lie, and that 2016 will roll around just fine.  So if Newt sabotages Romney, then they can point to how the nomination of a "moderate Republican" lost the election, and start over for 2016.

If Romney isn't going to overturn Romneycare, and I'm not so sure that he would, then of course Newt would rather kick Obama around for 4 more years than have Romney as president and be told to sit down and shut up for attacking the Republican President.

We can thank the Tea Party for this, for creating a chasm between the social and fiscal conservatives.  Wall Street wants Romney, but the poor, white, unemployed values voters know that Romney neither will put their values into Federal Law or bring their jobs back.  So why should they support him?

Hopefully independents that watch FOX are starting to question Romney and regardless, are hearing another point of view....
