      us citizenship was imposed on them in 1917, nobody asked for it, if you read puerto rican history you will find out that puerto rican legislators rejected that imposition because it fast tracked puerto rican men into world war 1. it is a second class citizenship by all means. you have the citizenship of a foreign country but you cannot elect the president or congress of that foreign country, what kind of democracy is that? only under colonialism.

        Or else become a republic, to my way of thinking. I'm happy with either; I know the former option commands much more popular support.
