  •  Todays Republicans don't resemble (3+ / 0-)

Republicans of even 20 years ago.  Many reasonable and responsible people have left the GOP in disgust at the racism, religious intolerance, and homophobia.  Republicans were always for Big Business, but did comprehend the need for social programs.  Now all they do is strip from the 99% to give to the 1%.

    •  True, (5+ / 0-)

Republicans have changed and I think it's not too biased for me to say Democrats have not changed quite as much though I do believe just about everybody is "bought" since our current system relies on that. That's the real reason Russ is not in office....he wasn't "bought" and didn't play that political game.

I wonder, Puddy, what that tally is for Republicans and Indies who adhere to many conservative ideas but can see through Walker? I have lots of exposure in my line of work to laborers who were raised to detest unions. And then they hear that their hunting land is about to be spoiled. What then?

The big tipper in this recall election is dependent on two things, IMO: 1) those that stayed home will not stay home 2) Those that voted for Walker and may support some of his ideas can't in good conscious keep him in office.

BTW, the Repubs called me last week about my opinion regarding the recall. She didn't like me much. But when I brought up his anti-environment stance (see upcoming bills this week) she quite literally exhaled in frustration at me. The environmentalists are, as my brother says, the quiet yet steadfast folk working behind the scenes; they actually have a lot of strength and pull. I think we'll see that shortly.

      •  As I said in my piece, so many (3+ / 0-)

people who voted for Walker were shocked.  It's been a huge wake up call.

Of course, our rotten media isn't covering this as anything other than a political pie fight and RW radio talkers are just praising Walker to the hilt, so it's personal experience from seeing the cuts in action (like when folks sent their kids back to school in September) or just word of mouth from co-workers, neighbors and the like that's getting the information out there.

Some people are just simply ideological.  They vote Republican because they always did, they buy into the bigotry, or they're worried that someday they'll be a millionaire and don't want to pay more taxes.

The BFD in my book is when Walker lost farmers.  Farmers!  They were always a reliable GOP voting block.  When I saw those farmers driving their tractors around the Capitol, I knew it was over for Walker.
