  •  Barrett has a lot of strength. (0+ / 0-)

His big weakness the first time around is that he is a very solid, mainstream Democrat running in a GOP wave year. His secondary weakness was a lack of fire in the belly. He has no populist instincts. He is very nice, very cautious and very, very establishment. He would make an effective gov, and is a solid enough progressive, though lately showing a more centrist side as mayor.

I'd rather see Feingold jump in, but barring that, Barrett is nearly as good as anyone else.

He has talked about reinstating collective bargaining while taking advantage of Walker's legislation. The press would eat him up. Outside of Feingold, we're in serious trouble.

I've talked to a lot of people around the state, including quite a few independents in very conservative areas. Most independent voters get that the state closed off other options, pretty much forcing the majority of local governments to use Walker's new rules.

The previous commenter was more likely on target with the buyer's remorse reasoning. Had Barrett been elected, local governments would have had far more options.

Barrett's biggest problem would be getting past Falk in a one on one primary because WEAC hates him and AFSCME is irritated with him. If he wins the primary, they will love him like their mother because they know he would be way better for unions than Walker.

He won't be able to win a rematch with Walker.
