He's also tossing in some outright lies as well.  It's easy to beat up on the made up in your head libertarians, but most aren't like his strawman at all.

Libertarians do care about freedom.  However they care about the freedom of the individual first and do not play identity politics.  They also consider the state the greatest threat to the freedom of the individual as only the state can legally use force against you or license another individual to use force against you.

This makes them a bit of an anathema.  Conservatives are completely willing to use the power of the state to impose their vision of America on things with little head to the consequences of the force of the state.  The same is true of liberals, who never saw a problem they didn't think using the force of the state to fix, or a wrong for the state to right, or a chance make people behave and think the way they want with the power of the state.

Most libertarians don't bother to pass off libertarianism as a functional form of government, because it's not and other than a small amount of cranks no libertarians actually want anarchy.  Most of them simply want to change the arguments and view points.  That perhaps using the force of the state to solve problems, be the real or imagined, often creates more problems (the war on drugs is the perfect example here) and thus we should be hesitant to go down that road.  Or that government is just as corrupt as the men in it.  So depending on government to protect us from corporations or special interests is inherently a losing game.

There's nothing wrong with any of that.

Libertarianism is only popular now because we've had 12 straight years of spectacular fuck ups from both of the major parties.  The government has lied to everyone and fucked up everything it touched.  When they were being the crooks and liars themselves they were failing to stop the other crooks and liars they were charged to do.

As such the basic libertarian idea of more individual freedom and suspicion of the state is catching on.

Unless said individual has a uterus.

The only path forward for this nation is the UTTER DESTRUCTION of this Republican Party.

Typical attitude from those who care about abortion more than bombing babies and brown people.  Why do you hate babies and brown people!  Why do you love bombing people!  Typical from your type.

In all seriousness, the libertarian party has no actual opinion on abortion.  It's a personal choice.

So just because some libertarians don't believe in it doesn't mean anything.

'some libertarians' it's the libertarian who gets the most publicity these days opposes women's health rights and I do not hear any other libertarians denouncing his stance on this issue. Most libertarians fall into one of two groups, those who are not in favor of women having personal freedom and those who don't care enough to speak against the first group.

libertarianism as a functional form of government"

That right there is precisely what is wrong with libertarianism. It is a form of escapism. A mental masturbation. A free form fantasy wherein all the ills of the world could be blamed on the bogeyman 'Big Gubmint'.
