but Wikipedia is out for the moment because of this Internet issue that I haven't paid any attention to.

I think it went something like Mitt was at Bain, but Bain's founder (or his son, I forget if there was a father/son angle in this company) saw the opportunity to branch out and Mitt and a chunk of Bain & Co people founded Bain Capital.  Pretty sure it had the blessing of Bain & Co and probably got some initial seed money from them at the beginning.

In situations like this, finding exact numbers will be next to impossible (i.e. finding Bain & Co's initial investment, current investment, current Bain Capital holdings, etc.)

The only connection between Bain & Company and Bain Capital is Mr. Bain.  One is a consulting firm, the other an investment firm.  Mitt Romney was only involved with Bain Capital, while Zients was only involved with Bain & Co.  Nothing to see here.  Move along.

Romney did work and Bain & Co before co-founding Bain Capital in 1984.

I don't have the exact years, but he was there a decent amount of time before starting Bain Capital.  And I think it was more than just Romney who left Bain & Co to start Bain Capital.

They are definitely linked historically, I just don't think the links play in politics since Bain & Co seems to be a pretty solid company that would be hard to be spun as "evil."
