  •  at an earlier debate, he got a standing ovation (7+ / 0-)

    for his blatant racism.
As I said to my older daughter this morning, the Republicans are scum. They used to be an honorable opposition (I didn't agree with them, but they weren't particularly hateful), but they've descended into the depths of some of the ugliest stuff I've seen since the Dixiecrats and segregationists.

If, in our efforts to win, we become as dishonest as our opponents on the right, we don't deserve to triumph.

    •  And much of the incivility can be laid at Newt's (6+ / 0-)

door. In the early '90s he handed out lists of words that republicans should use when referring to their democratic opponents in order to demonize them to the voters.

to beat Romney -- On the one hand, it's a lot of fun and if Romney's the nominee, he has a better chance than Gingrich of beating Obama. But on the other hand, if Gingrich is the nominee, even the very small chance that he might beat Obama terrifies me.

        •  If Gingrich somehow becomes the GOP nominee... (0+ / 0-)

Obama will carry 40 - 45 states.  And Democrats will win big on the down-ballot elections.

"Hear me, people:  We have now to deal with another race  -  small and feeble when our fathers first met them, but now great and overbearing.  Strangely enough they have a mind to till the soil and the love of possession is a disease with them.  These people have made many rules that the rich may break but the poor may not.  They take their tithes from the poor and weak to support the rich and those who rule."   -   Chief Sitting Bull
