  •  this is good news for John McCain! (6+ / 0-)

Sometime in late summer/early fall of 2008, McCain started making mistakes. That's what this makes me think of; McCain blurting out that "the fundamentals of the economy are strong!" and the whole campaign suspension/debate dodging fiasco.

Romney hasn't even made it thru the end of the January. "Bad politician" is right. Gingrich might just win SC, and if he pulls that off, maybe the nomination. The longer this process drags out, the more important the individual delegates are going to get. Romney has plenty of money, but is he prepared to run a lengthy delegate-based campaign? He doesn't look prepared for much of anything recently. An Obama vs Clinton style delegate fight is going to be something that Gingrich and Santorum (and Paul in particular) will enthusiastically accept at this point.

And the further we get into the primary season here, the possiblity of a brokered convention doesn't seem to be diminishing much; if anything I think it's going up.

I can't believe that Romney would make an own-goal like this. If this gaffe and that tormented non-answer from the other night about releasing his taxes (reasons #1 & #2 why Newt Gingrich is dangerous: yelling at King about the Marianne question leading off, and the "an hour ago" response to the tax forms question) get enough traction in conservative circles in the next 18 hrs or so, Romney might just be doomed. It's not like he's got Limbaugh on air tomorrow to defend him, either.

Jeez.....this is like watching the Braves and Red Sox fail their way out of the postseason this past September.
