was running for President.  Catholics were the victims of bigotry back then.  My ex is a fundamentalist Republican, and she thinks electing a Mormon might hasten Armageddon.

We must be careful about criticizing a candidate because of his faith, and even the support he gets from that church.

Obama got a lot of support from black ministers and churches.  Ministers and churches that have actively opposed gay marriages in many states, in the most bigoted ways.  Would we criticize Obama for garnering political support from them?  As distasteful as it is, the reality is that support from those bigots might be the deciding votes in swing states like VA or FL.

We must be careful not to take positions that are either in fact or give the appearance of hypocrisy.

Mormons to make his crowds larger.  The discussion above is about the Mormon church's involvement with Prop 8.  One has nothing to do with the other. However, there are many people who are angry at the church for their actions. I'm not sure that's bigotry, but I agree that denouncing bigotry, while practicing it, is hypocrisy. At the same time, it won't hurt my feelings if the Repuke bigots refuse to vote for Romney based on his faith.
