OK, so maybe I should have known who he was. But this great left-wing organizer, praised for his organizational talents by no less than William F. Buckley, died in the year that Gingrich was elected. So we are going back a ways. But I realize now that, in his own tortured mind, Gingrich thinks of Obama as the reincarnation of Alinsky. I guess one Chicago community organizer is pretty much inter-changeable with another. So, to Gingrich, Obama is Alinsky. He has always wanted to go back in time to battle Alinsky and now he figures he has his chance.

In the South the past is not dead; it's not even past (Faulkner). So let it be with Gingrich. Has there been a Republican since Nixon who so embodies that curious, vehement American brand of revanchism as does Gingrich?

did have some exposure to Alinsky, the question is why is that a bad thing?

    •  Man, they made me read Faulkner in high school. (0+ / 0-)

I didn't get him then, and I still don't get him now.  I know he is supposed to be a great Southern writer, but I really didn't get much about the South that he wrote about that was all that great.  They were all characters that I really didn't give a shit about.
