Harry 'the bagman' Reid is a democrat. Bankruptcy Joe Biden is a democrat. None of them ever met a corporate campaign contributor they couldn't satisfy at our expense.

And Obama has surrounded himself with Goldman Sach's alumni who led him to save the rich and the guilty, while leaving everyone in economic danger to drown.

So much for the 'centrist' wing of this party.

Each party speaks to a different constituency in this country. Republican have to satisfy the Christian conservatives at its base. Democrats have to satisfy liberal constituencies.  So much of that can fall easily into the 'I'm not a liberal, but I play one on TV'. (you can flip that around, and you have Gingrich).

Both will offer fig leaf sops to their base, while ignoring the economic issues that affect them. Because to address the structural deconstruction of living wages and job losses would require violating the interests of the people who pay for their campaigns: Wall St., the major banks and the mega-corporations who dominate all aspects of life in this country.

Is there something to be done? Hell yes! Get a WPA jobs program going (direct government employment, not this privatized, 'tax credit' bullshit); impose a foreclosure moratorium, stop signing free trade agreements (pull the curtain down on the ones we have), get the fuck of of these wars and close shop on the supremacist fantasies of the 'American Empire'. Use that money to pay for the previous items.

Sorry, I have no use for the 'I've fallen and I can't get up' wing of this sorry-ass party.

I am clear about what you are saying, and I agree.

What I am saying, is that we no longer have a publicly owned central government in the US. It has been largely privatized by the defense and financial sectors, some time ago. What we see on TV is a great deal like an amusement park, operating solely for the people's entertainment and necessary belief in "self-government".

Reality and the producers can be located back stage.

Thus, there is no political methodology to achieve what we both envision.

Most people, when knocked over by the truth, have a tendency to pick themselves up, brush themselves off...and then hurry away like nothing had ever happened.

in its dysfunction, its insidiousness and its cost.  I pulled the plug on my TV set well over a decade ago. So the propaganda never reaches me.

I disagree that no political methodology exists to achieve those ends.  There just lacks the will or the courage to do it at the upper end of society.  But no empire stands forever and this sinking morass of corruption can easily be sunk, if it doesn't collapse on its own.

The challenge is to be ready to fill the vacuum.
