    It works the same, of course.  But fundamentally, you simply have to make penalties harsh enough, that no employer will dare hire anyone with work permits/ID.

    Identity theft is a very real problem in this country and a lot of it is due to the selling of fake identities to undocumented workers.  And the poor worker has to pay through the nose to get it.  It really must stop.

      ...for the fake ID (SS card), she also has to pay her SS and Medicare withholding payroll taxes into a fake account which is of no benefit to her --although it does support the rest of us by making the SS trust fund that much more sound.

      Any time you hear the white right scream about identity theft, what they are admitting is that not only do informal workers pay taxes, they don't hardly get any benefit for it.

        re. All of our public infrastructure is paid for with taxes, police, fire, libraries, schools, roads, etc. Currently they pay about 5.3%, similar to working in other countries when one isn't a citizen that I've been in.
