    ...not wasting the taxpayers' money on stupid stuff.  

    I'm surprised they didn't bring up the old "Chinese gourmets paying top dollar for human fetuses" canard.  Since when does having their lurid urban legend debunked make them stop using it?

      but I'm in Texas.  The only thing that saves us from further national ridicule (for the time being) is that our legislature is out of session until 2013 and Governor Goodhair has left the presidential campaign.

      A Chinese artist did a work of social satire that involved constructing a mock cooked fetus out of vegetable material and photographing someone eating it. It's a well-known theme in modern Chinese art, going back to Lu Xun's madman and his "people are eating each other!" as a symbol for an oppressive and exploitative society.... but somehow the photos of the art exhibit got loose and panicked a lot of people who thought they were the real thing. I can remember trying to calm some Filipino Catholic acquaintances in Taiwan some years back.....
