  •  This is true: (17+ / 0-)
the GOP is overly focused on their own rabid base

but what choice do they have? If they give them anything less than insanity, the base stays home in November. Ain't it wonderful?

So, religious fundie base or racist base or mine mine mine base?

      •  Fundie base is (or will be) berzerk over Newt (7+ / 0-)

I talked to a Republican friend the other day. A classic low-information voter, she is just now starting to pay attention. She was wondering about the dust-up between Newt and some reporter in South Carolina, and why it had attracted so many cheers from the crowd.

So I explained that it was about the ABC interview with Gingrich's second wife, where she said Newt had asked for an open marriage, and how Newt had refused to answer the question, and instead attacked the librlmedia.

"What second wife?", she asked. So I then got to explain Newt's entire marital history, how he asked for a divorce from his first wife while she was in the hospital being treated for cancer, how he had an affair with his third wife while still married to his second, and how he was the only Speaker of the House in US history to be drummed out on ethics charges. All this was news to her.

All this was news to her! She's a true sings-in-the-choir, evanegelical, total immersion Baptist fundie, and all this was extremely off-putting to her. I can't wait for the general, pitting either moneybags Mittens vs. student-loan-debt Obama, or serial-adulterer Gingrich vs. stable-family-man Obama.

        We win either way.
