  •  I'm impressed (5+ / 0-)

by the little I've seen of her. (Barrett, by the way, isn't running, so don't worry about him.) I'm just getting to know about Kathleen, but I like her credentials and background, and most of all her personality. She's cheerful and seems genuinely Wisconsin. I think she could draw significant votes in the northern half of the state where we need some, and that she probably would have great appeal with women voters of all ages. There is the issue of her "fleeing" the state with the other Dem senators, which we proved in the recalls isn't insurmountable, but is an issue. Can we win a special election to replace her if she does become Governor? We can't give up a Senate seat lightly, either.

    •  Yes we can hold her seat, if she were to win. (3+ / 0-)

She would actually help out one of the current Democratic Assembly Reps. in the SD. Democrats Chris Danou and Mark Radcliffe were Fitzmandered together in the new 92nd AD. One of them could run for the Senate, and the other would stay in the Assembly.
Danou actually lost to Kathleen in the 2006 Democratic Primary 64%-36%. So, he has the name recognition. And, all the territory that was removed from the district was Radcliffe's. So, Danou would have the upper-hand in Democratic primary.

Plus, the new SD-31 is about the same to a point more blue than the old one, I think. And, many in our district, even Republicans, are very mad at Republicans right now.
