    They are two different subjects, although there is a linkage.  

    Deficit: the amount by which revenue is less than expenditures.

    Debt: the amount owed to creditors.

    Using the terms precisely can clear up confusion over the accuracy of some of the claims made in the images featured in the diary.  Inprecise use of the terms adds to the confusion.
