    Really?
Barack Obama is a big person, a leader who reaches out across the aisle for the good of the American people.
Rick Warren is a small, shallow, money-grubbing, sanctimonious, homophobic asshat.  But millions of Americans follow him, and seem to somehow find something worthwhile in what he has to say.  President Obama did nothing wrong or unwise by inviting Warren to speak at the Inauguration.  I think Obama was merely using the opportunity to show us what it's like to be a true Christian adult.
It's too bad Warren didn't get the message, but that's not Obama's fault.
This only makes Obama bigger, imho.

But there are so many religious people in America with some small degree of faith, and some degree of sincerity.  Inviting Warren was a bald political move, an intent to set low-information whites at ease.  It was a bit naive to think that he could make inroads that way, and Warren was an ass long before Obama invited him to the inauguration.

From my perspective, a decent man (Obama) made a minor error in inviting this creep.  Not a big deal either way, but definitely there was no benefit for Obama from doing this.

Don't we need a smart politician to push through the wall of Republican obstructionism?
While you view it as a "bald political move," I regard it as somewhat brilliant.  When a good chunk of the electorate to this day still thinks that Obama is a Muslim Kenyan socialist dictator, if any of that could have been defused by inviting a certain preacher to the inauguration, and thereby making some of this stuff more achievable, I say give me more of those bald political moves.
