  •  You might want to check how that usage (10+ / 0-)

came about - i.e., "It's the xyz, stupid!"  You might then consider the possibility that the poster wasn't actually calling you stupid.   If you're still not sure, check "rhetorical devices" in your Funk and Wagnalls.

      ...is another losing strategy.

I'm well aware of the origins of the phrase. I'm also well aware that the "rhetorical" excuse doesn't get you off the hook. (Pointing out that it's actually a user handle is much more relevant.)

It's a phrase that needs to be retired, because the deliberate implication is that the target of the rhetoric has failed to consider something as obvious as the Supreme Court, and that is abject bullshit. Instead of assuming that the person you're trying to persuade is ignorant or inattentive, try considering the very real possibility that they have all the same facts that you do but come from a different perspective or hold a different set of priorities.

We know about the Supreme Court. Obama's Supreme Court is the one that gave us Citizens United, remember? And it has actually moved to the right since then.

And for the record, Carville is a jackass.
